Kaloyan Valentinov Danchev and former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discuss Danchev's mission for civic education and youth empowerment in the Balkans.

As foreign influence and digital disinformation continue to threaten fragile democracies across Eastern Europe, Kaloyan Valentinov Danchev is stepping forward—not just as a business leader, but as a global citizen with deep regional roots.

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria and now at the helm of one of Latin America’s most successful luxury tourism firms, Danchev’s career has always operated across borders. But at a recent event in Washington, D.C., he returned to his heritage with new purpose: launching a civic initiative to strengthen democratic values in the Balkans through education, truth, and youth engagement.

The high-level dialogue featured former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, exploring the impact of Russian disinformation and the urgent need for transatlantic cooperation. But for Danchev, it was more than geopolitics—it was personal.

“We must empower future leaders to protect truth,” he said from the stage, setting the tone for the Valentino Danchev Foundation’s long-term vision: civic education, media literacy, and grassroots leadership that transcends borders.

Civic Education as a Strategic Defense

In post-Soviet societies where democracy remains vulnerable, civic education is a critical line of defense. Through initiatives like Let’s Learn Together, Danchev’s foundation is investing in programs that equip young people with the knowledge, values, and confidence to resist disinformation and drive democratic renewal.

Former Prime Minister Petkov echoed that urgency, pointing to media independence and digital literacy as tools essential for safeguarding national identity and informed political participation.

From Business Leadership to Democratic Stewardship

What gives Danchev’s voice weight is not just conviction—it’s lived experience. From rebuilding his career in Eastern Europe’s textile sector to scaling Fidelis Marketing Group into a billion-dollar hospitality powerhouse in Mexico, his life has been shaped by transition, resilience, and vision.

The Valentino Danchev Foundation draws directly from that experience, serving as a platform where entrepreneurship meets ethics, and personal history becomes public mission.

“The local is inseparable from the global,” Danchev noted—reinforcing that what happens in Sofia, Belgrade, or Skopje matters as much in Brussels and Washington as it does in the Balkans themselves.

A New Chapter of Global Civic Engagement

As the world confronts rising authoritarianism and societal polarization, Danchev is calling for a new model of leadership—one grounded in heritage, informed by global experience, and committed to building the next generation of democratic stewards.

Through youth empowerment, public discourse, and international cooperation, the Valentino Danchev Foundation is answering that call—one conversation, classroom, and community at a time.
