The businessman Kaloyan Valentinov Danchev (Калоян Валентинов Данчев, for his Bulgarian graphology) recommends his favorite magical towns, ideal to visit in a weekend.

If you live in Mexico, you have the fortune of being able to escape any weekend to a magical town, since these have the characteristic of being close to a city and promise to easily transport you to the purest national identity in each of its corners.

By definition, a magical town is a place with symbols and legends, populated with stories that in some cases have been the scene of transcendent events for our country.

This term was created as a tourist program by the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico and recognizes cities or towns for the work of protecting and preserving their cultural wealth. Currently and officially there are 132 Magical Towns throughout the Mexican territory; Here is the official list published by the Government of Mexico: https://bit.ly/3kViJxe

However, below I will list my favorites:

Jalisco

Mazamitla

Located in the Sierra del Tigre, Mazamitla, Jalisco offers beautiful natural landscapes and a large number of adventure and sport activities. So if you like to connect with nature, you can rent a cabin and visit Mundo Aventura Parque Ecológico de Mazamitla to cross its large suspension bridge and be amazed by the incredible Museum of magic, myths and legends.

Coahuila

Cuatro Ciénegas

Visiting Cuatro Cienegas will make your eyes delight in everything they have to see, the must-sees are: The gypsum dunes, La Poza Azul, Río los Mezquites, Mina de Mármol and of course the Poza de la Becerra. It will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience, do not forget to bring a bathing suit.

Quintana Roo

Bacalar

Surely I don´t have much to say about this magical town, because I consider that all of us have heard it at least once. Bacalar is home to one of the most impressive lagoons in Mexico, the lagoon of the seven colors; showing a combination of shades between blue and turquoise that make everyone who visits this magical town fall in love. Without a doubt, a must see.

Chihuahua

Creel

Due to its famous journey on the “Chepe” train, Creel is consolidated as an important tourist destination, so I recommend you visit the famous valleys that are rock formations where when walking along its paths your lungs will be filled with the rich aroma of the forest. Also, don´t forget to visit Lake Arareko where you can do different water activities.

Chiapas

San Cristóbal de las Casas

Chiapas keeps this treasure very well, because its streets, crafts and the warmth of its inhabitants will make you end up completely in love with San Cristóbal de las Casas. Enjoy a coffee while you contemplate the Cathedral, visit the amber museum and discover the caves of Rancho Nuevo. You will not regret it!

Baja California Sur

Todos Santos

According to local legend, the Hotel California that inspired the Eagles hit song is right here. Although we still do not know if that is true or not, Todos Santos will make you escape from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, you can start practicing your surfing skills and walk through its streets contemplating all the colonial architecture.

With these recommendations made by our travel expert, Kaloyan Valentinov Danchev (Калоян Валентинов Данчев, for his Bulgarian graphology), you can plan a good weekend getaway or even a longer vacation in any of these beautiful places in Mexico.
