The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is probably not that familiar to you, however, our tourism expert, Kaloyan Valentinov Danchev, explains that it is a fundamental United Nations agency, which is in charge of promoting responsible tourism, sustainable and accessible to all.

This means that they are concerned that tourism contributes to the economic growth of each country, while maintaining environmental sustainability and inclusive development.

Why are we telling you all this?

Because the UNWTO on February 27, 2022, listed Mexico as the third most visited country in the world in 2020 and the thirteenth in attracting tourist currency.

For Kaloyan Valentinov Danchev this becomes a relevant issue, since it is the first time that Mexico occupies a place within the top 3. It is estimated that in 2020 more than 20 million international tourists arrived in the country, which contributed to obtaining a considerably high foreign exchange income from tourism.

All this probably would not have been possible if there had been restrictions to enter the country, since the profile of the tourist under the conditions of the pandemic has evolved and now seeks places in the open air, with much more nature, culture, tradition and of course, incredible gastronomy; everything that Mexico offers in every corner.

Our expert considers that it is very likely that as COVID-19 decreases, countries will reduce their entry requirements and everything will "normalize" this list will begin to undergo changes and Mexico will go down a few more steps. However, this is considered an excellent growth opportunity and an area of opportunity to attract both international and national tourists.

Without a doubt, Mexico has a lot to offer and being bearers of this distinction tells us how much the tourism sector has evolved and grown in our country.
